I’m sure that almost everyone that owns a site has heard of the idea of ever green content. It may be a pretty common concept but producing it is a different question. In this post I will talk about how to write content that will stand the test of time, the advantages it will bring your site and what’s in it for you.
How to write long lasting content.
Before you build a content strategy that will stand the test of time, it’s important to really understand your niche, find out what people are interested in, what problems they have, the answers they are looking for and why they will come to your site to find them.
Why you need to be an expert?
I’m not saying you need to portray yourself as an expert from the beginning but if people are to believe in what you are saying they need to believe in you. To do this you will need to know you niche inside out. Doing so will ensure you will have a much better idea of the problems people face and the questions they are asking which in turn will put you in a better position to answer these questions.
If you are writing on a topic that you don’t know a great deal about the likelihood is that you will be using the content of our sites for inspiration which in effect will just lead you to paraphrase what the other site has already said. If you do this you are ensuring that your content is uninspiring and un original. People reading your site will have read it all before and will be uninspired by what you are saying, chances are they will never return, Having repeat visitors is crucial if your site doesn’t have them you could be destined to fail.
What to base your content on
If you want you content to continually generate traffic for months or years down the line you need to write your posts on topics that do not change often. Writing a post on last week’s football match won’t be a great deal of use to anyone 6 months down the line, but writing a post about the history of the 2 football clubs that played the match will still be read in years to come.
So what’s in it for you
The first thing to understand is that creating content that last will mean you could spend days writing a piece, to warrant spending this amount of time you have to be sure that you will be able to reap the benefits in the months and years to come. People are looking for new ideas, inspiration or even the eureka moment. If you content can produce this the rewards are endless and the time spent creating the content will be repaid time and time again. Not just with readers who enjoy what you have to say and will return to read more, but you will attract links, credibility, word will spread and your site will continue to grow and prosper over the coming years.
The web is full of mediocre and subpar content with one site just rehashing what another site has already talked about, if you are producing uninspiring content your readers will be uninspired by you and what you have to say so why would they ever return?
