What Makes You A Successful Blogger

This post is a part of our $500 Guest Blogging contest, If you’d like to participate, check the guidelines here.

First thing to know is, success is very subjective in the one end and very superficial at the other end, for some being a successful blogger may mean reaching to a thousands dollar in earnings each month, for someone else getting a hundred more subscribers to the blog every month. It also it is very superficial because what you may mean by success today may not be the same when you have attained it, in other words success is not satisfying at the most it only creates more thirst in you and do remember that its ever going to be satisfactory. In my view what you need to really seek is not success but happiness, I am not sure whether you are thinking success will make you happy? Well I would leave that question to you.

Secondly I take full responsibility for whatever ideas I put forth here, for one main reason they are mine and all I am sharing with your in this article is based on my own experiences and knowledge I implemented on myself and on my blogs and what they ultimately taught me. If you are looking for a post that will teach you the methods, tweaks, tricks or what not then just be reminded that you might end up being disappointed, but on the other hand if you are really keeping your mind open to whatever I have to say here, then you might very well find this article interesting. So lets not waste any more time and jump on to the topic.

Do You Really Love To Blog?

One of the primary questions that used to keep nagging me when I first decided to blog is why there are very few blogs which are successful? You should know that there are at the least 1.2 billion blogs that are already created and running online, but if you can pick out the successful ones out of that huge number what you might arrive will be a very less percentage. Why is that?

I know you can give at least a dozen reasons for why such a huge number of blogs fail to become popular in a technical way, but the real conclusive answer I found for that question is LOVE!

Success with blogging is not easy especially when you want to compete with at least a billion blogs out there, but it’s not impossible. And what really makes it possible is the Love you need to have towards blogging. If you ever had been truly in Love with someone you should have realized it by now, despite all the troubles and frustration your beloved may induce up on you, you still hold on to the person. Have you ever asked why? It must be one of the impossible questions to answer because logically it seems insane, in fact best logical conclusion you might arrive for the question will be to break up, but love transcends all. If you get the chance to go through some of the best Love stories in the history, ultimate base of the story is the same, its more like a pizza with a same base but different toppings on the outside.

Actual base of all the Love stories is this, a guy falls madly in love with some girl and girl or other closely associated with her will ask the guy to do something that is totally impossible to do, but the guy ultimately end up doing the impossible. I just want to point out that what might seem as impossible for a non-lover will be possible for a lover. Not every blogger succeeds, but bloggers who love blogging will end up successful despite all the struggles, because a lover will have the capacity to go through the struggles without giving up.

How To Know Whether You Love Blogging?

Love at first sight happens on very rare occasions and there are people who claim its not possible at all, I am not going to dispute on it, but under normal circumstances, when a guy or a girl interests you, you might first end up being friends and get to know the person and at some point you either tend to have more interest on the person which will ultimately end up in Love for that person or you tend to lose your initial interest you once had.

So the first step would be to try blogging, there are hundreds of free blogging platforms online for you to try, blogger is considered to be the best and opinions differ from person to person. It does not really matter what blogging platform you choose just give blogging a try for few days and see how it really interests you.

What To Blog About?

Second and most obvious question that might arise in your mind will be, what really to blog about? Believe me or not, this is a very serious problem with most amateur bloggers, what the heck should you blog about?

What Are You Really Interested In?

Talking from my own experience I never thought find the topic of my interest would be such a struggle, may be the way will be much easy for few, but my path was pretty hard, finally realized the problem really lied in the way I was brought up and most importantly our education system.

I personally think our education system is doing more bad and than good to an individual, right from when you are two or three years old, you are forced to do things which you hardly have any interest in doing and that continues till you finish up your college degree and that’s approximately around when you are 20 years old, so for around 17 to 18 years of your life you end up doing things that you may or in most cases may not like doing, you do it any way because the society around you forces you to do it.

What is really happening to you is you are most likely to end up losing yourself. How often have you come across a person who claims, he/she really have no idea about himself/herself? Those are claims from a person is becoming more common in recent times, I can point out at least a dozen individuals I know who told me the exact same statement. So where is the answer?

Experimenting Is the Key

Real key to knowing your topic of interest lies in experimenting, do not ever bother about choosing a random topic and try to blog about it, its not really necessary that you need to know every bit of information there is on the topic you choose, but as you experiment you will come to find the topic that your mind instantly gathers more interest on. That would the topic of your interest. When that happens, it ultimately changes you upside down. It changes the way you look at the world.

To put it in a more clear way, when a music director watches a movie, he gives special attention to each and every music that was being played through out the video which will be totally different with the way a professional actor watches the same, he is more likely to look in to expressions of the actor in the movie.

Why this happens? Because it’s the way each person’s mind is tuned. As I understand it, tuning of mind do not happen until the person finds his topic of interest or at least for a longer period of time. So this will be the first key towards your success.

Running Multiple Blogs On Multiple Topics

This is one of the biggest problems with start up bloggers, most end up creating number of blogs on different topic, but ultimately end up giving up blogging on the whole. My advice would be to take one or two blogs at a time to experiment with and do not go any further.

When you test run multiple blogs there are obvious problems like, it will end up sucking up most of your time, secondly brain is not capable of focusing on different topics at the same time or in a short duration of time or in other words its capacity is very limited at least for men, scientifically people claim women’s brain is more capable of multi tasking over men’s, whatever is the case avoid doing it. Instead of it helping you to find the topic of your interest it might end up confusing you even more, which you obviously do not want to happen to you.

Success Is Not Instant It Happens Over Time

Just try to grab a pen and a paper and list down all the popular and successful blogs you can think of. Once you are done just have a look at the list and again list down the possible and common reasons for their success. I do not know what is your final results are in this particular activity, but let me put in my inputs of this experiment to you.

1. Every Blog Started With A Single Post

No matter how successful and popular all the blogs in your list is, all the blogs started with a single post with no to very less traffic.

2. Its Posts Which Makes A Blog Successful

People think SEO, social media sites or whatnot is making the blog successful, but to my understanding it’s the ultimate core which is its contents is making it possible.

3. Every Single Post Holds The Key

Some people can pin point handful of posts in hundreds of article they have already written which made them popular, but I would say if you happen to delete all the so called useless posts and keep only ones which they think that made their success possible they would end up digging the grave yard for their own blog.

4. Every Blog Is Still Active

Just know that despite the zero or meager traffic they had in the initial days of blogging, despite the so called useless posts they might have made on their blog which gathered no attention, despite some traffic loss that might have happened during Google sandbox period when their blog was in the start up period, they are still keeping their blog active. That’s what the love for blogging which I was mentioning earlier will bring about eventually, those bloggers might still be looking towards higher goals which will define their success, but its their love for blogging which keeps them going, to me that is the real success, love is a success unto itself.

SEO Means Mind Your Own Business

People say content is the king when it comes to blogging, but I would go one step further, Content is the King even when it comes to SEO and that is not a blind claim. Even people who are actually working on the complex algorithms which Google is working on to give the best search results possible to their readers claim its enough you can produce great contents to your site and need not worry about anything else.

But there is something wrong with people who keep on straining themselves day in and day out to build links where ever possible, getting social votes from the same group of people over and over again, comment spamming over thousands of blogs, I could go on listing all the insane activities people do in the name of SEO.

So what is the problem? Problem lies in the way our mind functions, mind is never interested in the obvious and the obvious is the contents, mind likes to make things complicated. SEO in reality is not complicated at all, it is simple, create contents, create quality and original contents of your interest to interest people who are looking for information from search engines. There is absolutely nothing more to it.

I get chat messages all the times from bloggers and SEO professionals, most of the times it’s the same, copy paste message they would have sent to hundreds of others in their chat list, message will be simple, there will be four to five links from some popular social media sites and they want me to vote their links up.

Some times I did vote their links up, but sad part is most of their links are voted down by Google and ended up losing 90% of the traffic from search engines during the recent panda and Google farm update. If you want to trick people, social media sites or search engines just know that your trick won’t last long enough, you need to be genuine if you want to enjoy success on the long run.

My advice would be to build few links initially just to make the search engines find and index your blog, after that all you need to do is use the keywords in your titles and do some basic on page optimization and there ends everything. If people want to link to your contents, let it happen naturally, quality contents and quality blogs always gets the attention of people.

What about Money?

I mainly see money as a by product of your success rather than taking it as your ultimate goal, but when your work is directed towards the right direction it never fails to produce you the wealth you deserve.

  2. Nice guide, and all I can conclude is if you’ve passion for blogging, then its meant for you, other wise not.

    • Of course, why do you want to waste your life with something you do not like? as simple as that.

  3. Excellent.I have followed these principles practically for few websites in producing unique content in blogs. In spite of the criticism and pungent remarks, I follow the same thing.I lost my job even resiting to do superficial promotion.I feel justified that there are few more persons having the same wavelength.
